GE4 Geomedia – investigate, participate and influence — revision for the matriculation exam

Ydinkäsitteet
- Geomedia — kaikki välineet, joilla maantieteellistä tietoa hankitaan, käsitellään, esitetään ja jaetaan: kartat, paikkatietoaineistot, satelliittikuvat, tilastot, diagrammit, valokuvat ja verkkopalvelut.
- Paikkatieto — sijaintitieto (missä) + ominaisuustieto (mitä siellä on). Analyysin voima syntyy siitä, että eri lähteiden aineistot asetetaan samaan koordinaatistoon karttatasoiksi ja tarkastellaan yhdessä.
- Vektori vs. rasteri — vektoriaineisto esittää kohteet pisteinä, viivoina ja alueina, joihin liittyy ominaisuustaulukko (tiet, rakennukset, kunnat). Rasteriaineisto on säännöllinen ruudukko, jossa jokaisella pikselillä on arvo (satelliittikuva, korkeusmalli).
- Koordinaatit — leveysaste 0–90 astetta päiväntasaajalta pohjoiseen tai etelään ($60^\circ\text{N}$), pituusaste 0–180 astetta nollameridiaanista itään tai länteen ($25^\circ\text{E}$). Sekaannus asteikkojen välillä on tavallinen virhe.

How to train module GE4 into points
- Revise the module's core concepts — name them, do not paraphrase them.
- Write an exam-style answer on the topic. Give yourself the same time as in the exam.
- Read the score, what was missing, and the three corrections — Interpretation of maps, diagrams and statistics; regional examples; the mechanisms of processes (e.g. plate tectonics).
- Write the same answer again after the corrections and see how far it rose.
